Our first day program for individuals with autism and other special needs, opened in Bo, Sierra Leone on May 14th, 2018. The students range in age from 7 to 19 years old.
Junior and I returned to the United States from Sierra Leone yesterday. We opened a day program for individuals with developmental disorders and other special needs. It was heartbreaking to know that these young kids and younger adults have never attended school, as there was no place for them in mainstream schools. They were written off by society. Sierra Leone is a place where there is no provision for individuals with social needs.
All of these kids are considered by society as a product of either spiritual influence, fault of the mom, witchcraft, or child of the devil, and money should not be wasted on them. In just a week of love, support and safety, we have proven to their parents that they are as important as as any other child, and they are capable of learning and getting an education.
